Live Stats withhold

As of 2018 Playoffs, we now officially withhold $10 from the winning pot to be allocated for securing live stats at the pool standings website.

2016-2017

Another year of attempted poolacide and yet we keep on going stronger than ever. Crawford flew in from Toronto "just for the pool." And Ben showed up a week early. Got Handsome Gord back. A couple new rules regarding trades instituted and we have gone to a single draft for all players. Ranon will provide a website stat tracker when he returns from Southeast Asia, something about a honeymoon.

New Season Again

We went from the usual no pool scare to having eight members this year. If Brody had an updated email maybe it might have even been nine. Should be a good year with a few talented rookies floating around and very likely a changing landscape in the standings.

And it is shaping up to be another Ben pool. I am sure all will share in heartiest congratulations. It isn't over yet but his strongest challengers have to post up roughly 15 unanswered points next round against his five Hawks. The odds are not very good. Congrats to Matt as well on his bracket win; he has the distincton of being the first non-pool entry to win the bracket and pockets a $35 profit.

With this break in games I updated everyone's totals. It is still close but it won't be after this next round. It is shaping up to be a nemesis battle between Gord and Ben which I find very "interesting."

Picks Are In

It was Christmas again in poolie world and all Ranon got was a Perry. But I imagine a few of us may find that some of what we got will turn to coal, may the best prezzies win. We forgot to recite Ranon's poem. I paste it below to remind us all of the spirit of the season:

THE NIGHT BEFORE HOCKEY POOL

‘Twas the night before hockey pool, when all through the house

Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

The predictions were saved on the computer with care,

In the hopes that the season soon would be there;

The poolies were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of victory danced in their heads;

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

They sprang from their beds to see what was the matter.

Away to their windows they flew in a flash,

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

When what to their wondering eyes should appear,

But four frosted glasses, and a jug of cold beer.

With a bartender, so lively and quick,

They knew in that moment it was time for first pick.

More rapid than eagles, the rounds in the draft came,

They whistled, and shouted and called players by name;

“Now, Crosby! Now, Malkin! Now Stamkos and Kane!

On, Henrik! On Daniel! On Toews and Duchene!

To the top of the standings! To the top of it all!

Now just don’t get injured, don’t even fall!”

In the blink of an eye, the draft was all done,

And they would wait until April to see who had won.

They spoke not a word, as they left Boston Pizza,

Not even the one who drafted Sbisa.

But they all did exclaim, as they drove out of sight,

“HAPPY HOCKEY POOL TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT.

New Winner

This year we have a new winner, which is good for the pool (sorry Ranon). I was torn as to who I wanted to win. I wanted to see A.V. win a cup, first year post-Canucks would be funny. But then if NYR won it would have likely been a Ben pool win again... lesser of two evils, congrats Brody.
